Voices from the Field: Jeff McGillivray of UA Local 290

“My journey began in 1992 when I took my first job on a natural gas pipeline. Little did I know that this decision would shape the next 28 years of my life. A plumbers apprenticeship followed, where I gained a depth of knowledge and hands-on expertise that I have relied on for years. The trades offered me a remarkable alternative to traditional college education. Today, an apprenticeship program provides an avenue for people from all walks of life to embark on fulfilling careers, working on a variety of projects ranging from stormwater management to natural gas infrastructure, plumbing, HVAC systems, electrical setups, and steam fitting.”
